About the event
From the Gallic tribe of the Parisii to the Palais de la Cité, by way of the Pont Neuf and the Sainte-Chapelle, the Île de la Cité has been the beating heart of the capital's history for millennia. While its various inhabitants have gradually added historical layers worthy of a mille-feuille pastry, and while numerous fires, as well as the French Revolution and Baron Haussmann's grand urban renewal projects, have permanently altered its oldest vestiges, a rich heritage remains to be appreciated.
Thus, whether it be the iconic bridges that border it and draw it towards the Right Bank and the Left Bank, the former palace of the Kings of France, the second royal square, Place Dauphine, or its Art Nouveau metro station, Cité, the only one to cross Paris beneath the Seine, I invite you to step back in time and appreciate these vital testimonies of the past.
During a 2-hour guided walking tour, you'll learn more about the origins of Paris, the rise of a centralized royal power structure, and the beginnings of major national judicial administrations, all at your own pace, with the help of images and reconstructions.
Accessible to people with physical disabilities, in VIP or group settings, and suitable for families and adults alike, this guided walking tour can be combined with a guided visit inside Notre-Dame Cathedral. This offers another way to rediscover the history of its magnificent and ongoing restoration, as well as that of one of the oldest religious buildings in the capital.
