About the event
Symbols of modernity, universal exhibitions appeared in the 19th century, first in London in 1851, before being held in Paris from 1855 (under the leadership of Napoleon III), and in many other cities. Moments of emulation and industrial, technical, commercial or architectural competition, universal exhibitions have left many monuments that have made history, if only in Paris, with the Eiffel Tower (which should have been destroyed 20 years after its construction), or the Grand and Petit Palais, as well as the Palais de Tokyo. But how were these exhibitions organized, by whom, and what were their operating procedures? What issues were associated with them, and how were universal exhibitions experienced by contemporaries, artists or not? So many questions that will be addressed in this conference which will allow us to immerse ourselves in this era of all possibilities.
