About the event

Lee Miller (1907–1977) was a chameleon. A model, fashion photographer, close associate of the Surrealists, muse, war photojournalist, and also a master chef, almost no aspect of her century escaped her keen eye. Neither the rise of the illustrated press and the photographic avant-garde, nor the most modernist artistic and literary circles of her time, nor the horrors of war and the extermination camps.

To rediscover the unconventional and unpredictable journey of a woman who wished to be the master of her own destiny, the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris, in collaboration with Tate Britain and the Art Institute of Chicago, is presenting a major retrospective—the largest organised in the French capital in 20 years. For the occasion, nearly 250 prints (many of which are period prints, taken by Lee Miller herself) are on display, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in Lee Miller’s diverse worlds.

To help you appreciate or explore this unique, brilliant and defiantly categorical body of work, I invite you to join me on a guided tour to discover the most iconic – or the most unconventional – prints by the great Lee Miller. From her early days in New York and Paris, through her travels in the Middle East (Egypt, Syria), to the extermination camps of Dachau and Buchenwald, you’ll learn almost everything there is to know about the woman who photographed the best—but also the worst—of the 20th century.

Please do not hesitate to contact me for any guided tour (private or group); I would be delighted to work with you to create a tour tailored to your preferences.

This tour can be combined with a (video) conference on Lee Miller (lasting between 1 hour 15 minutes and 1 hour 30 minutes), to provide the key insights needed to understand Lee Miller’s work and career.

Finally, please note that the exhibition is accessible to people with mobility impairments (wheelchair access).
