Guided tours of the exhibition "Matisse. 1941-1954"

A true Renaissance man, Henri Matisse (1869-1954) was not only one of the co-founders of Fauvism. He was also a painter, engraver, sculptor, and set designer, guided by the allure of color in all its variations. Color was his absolute, something he continued to explore until the end of his career, even after abdominal cancer forced him to reinvent himself in order to continue his creative work regardless, thanks to the development of a groundbreaking technique: gouache on paper.

Far from being halted in his creative process, the last 13 years of Henri Matisse's life were indeed exceptionally rich, as demonstrated by the exhibition dedicated to him at the Grand Palais, thanks to collections loaned by the Centre Pompidou and other major international institutions.

For this occasion, 300 works, encompassing all media, have been selected, from small-format pieces to monumental commissions, bringing to light some of his major series, such as Interiors of Vence (1947-1948), Jazz, Themes and Variations, and the famous Blue Nudes.
